OpenAI announced that users can access ChatGPT, its widely-used AI chatbot, without signing up starting next Monday. The San Francisco-based startup aims to make AI more accessible to everyone, gradually rolling out this feature.
ChatGPT, which initiated the GenAI trend in late 2022, can emulate human conversation, summarize texts, compose poetry, and even brainstorm party themes. Despite a slowdown in growth since May 2023, when it hit a peak of 1.8 billion web visits, it remains a popular service.
To ensure safer interactions for non-sign-up users, OpenAI has implemented additional content safeguards, though specific categories were not disclosed. Beyond the free version of ChatGPT, which lacks internet access, paid versions are available for individuals, teams, and enterprises.
OpenAI may utilize user-provided content to enhance its large language models, although users can opt out. This development follows a recent lawsuit from Elon Musk, alleging OpenAI's deviation from its original mission of AI development for societal benefit.
