Third Mainland Bridge Closed for 24-Hour Repairs

The Third Mainland Bridge Closure

Lagos, Nigeria - February 18, 2024: The Federal Ministry of Works has announced a critical 24-hour closure of the Third Mainland Bridge, affecting Lagos Island-bound traffic from midnight tonight, February 18th, to midnight tomorrow, February 19th.

This temporary shutdown is necessary to facilitate urgent repairs on a crucial section of the bridge currently undergoing comprehensive rehabilitation.

“We understand this closure will cause inconvenience for many commuters,” said Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State. “However, these repairs are essential to ensure the long-term safety and integrity of the bridge. We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation.”

Meanwhile, the specific section of the bridge undergoing repairs has not been publicly disclosed. But the Federal Ministry of Works apologizes for any inconvenience caused by this closure and assures the public that the repairs will be completed as quickly and safely as possible.

Traffic Impact and Alternatives

Iyana Oworonshoki-bound traffic will be completely closed for 24 hours. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes such as the Eko Bridge, Carter Bridge, or ferry services.

Lagos Island-bound traffic will remain open throughout the closure. However, traffic management, e.g the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), will be deployed to manage traffic flow and minimize congestion on alternative routes.

In addition, the Ministry encourages motorists to stay informed about the latest traffic updates through official channels like LASTMA's social media pages and traffic radio stations.

Motorists are urged to plan their journeys in advance and allow extra travel time. In addition, they're also beseeched to consider using public transportation, carpooling options, or ferry options, and obey all traffic regulations and instructions from LASTMA officials.
